Facts about our school
V. Alecsandri High School

Iasi, where our school is situated, is the second largest city in Romania. It is a university city with old cultural traditions. Most of our personalities lived and worked here. Our school is in the civic centre in the vicinity of important historical buildings: the first Romanian printing press, Dosoftei’s house, St Sava Church (the oldest building in the city), the Palace of Culture (former royal residence housing five museums now), the national Theatre, the town hall- to mention just a few of them.

Our school main policy is focused on its children encouraging their personal development by giving equal opportunities to everybody. Our High School Students’ association and Students’ Council is a proper framework for them to express their own opinions and interests.

Our school has a population of 1441 pupils whose ages range between 7 and 19, and 100 teachers. Considering the individuals’ needs in the present day society when teacher and learner mobility and opportunities are essential and, as a result, aiming at enhancing students’ linguistic competences, our school has introduced the study of foreign languages (English, German and French) through intensive (4 classes a week) and bilingual classes (6 classes a week), on a large scale. Intensive and bilingual classes of foreign languages (English, German and French) as well as classes of computer studies are main features of our school.

Our school has also encouraged its students to participate in extra-curriculum national and international projects, which have given them the opportunity to establish contacts and to familiarize them with diversity. The activities within the Comenius Projects have helped our students to improve their level of the foreign language (high school students’ level of English is B2/ C1) and have also had a great impact on their self-confidence and educated them in the spirit of tolerance and cooperation. Exchanges, videoconferences with our partners, Hockerill College, Great Britain, St. Veroniqe Licee, Liege, Belgium have also contributed to their personality by adding new dimensions to their education as future European citizens.

Our teachers, most of whom are very young, set a good example for their students by successfully participating in international and national projects and activities focused on their self-development.
