Hi, my name is Angel. I was in 1990 and my family fled to Tanzania to escape the danger we faced in Rwanda. As you may already know that between April to July 1994 an estimate of one million Tutsi and moderate Hutu men, women and children were murdered by the extremist Hutu group. We still feel the impact and consequences of the genocide 15 years after. I grew up with stories of my friends, family and neighbours' memories of the genocide. It is devastating to hear of the horrors that went on during that time and the years leading to the 1994 genocide. Thankfully, in present day Rwanda, we no longer distinguish people by their ethnic group. We are all called Rwandans. We look towards a better future where we can live in harmony. We would like to share some of what I have learnt with you. |
